[Link] KFC's Double Down Sandwich
It was brought to my attention that KFC is testing a new sandwich. They claim the Double Down Sandwich — made of two fried chicken filets, two cheeses, bacon, and the Colonel's sauce — is only 590 calories. I'm not so sure about that.
Granted, I don't know the exact portions/serving size of the sandwich but here are some numbers:
- Calories in two strips of bacon: 80 (source)
Reality check: KFC might be using smaller strips to save money. - Calories in one slice of pepper jack cheese: 80 (source)
- Calories in one slice of swiss cheese: 108 (source)
- Calories from one KFC fried chicken breast: 370 (source)
Reality check: They are using two smaller filets instead of a chicken breast. It's hard to believe two filets would be any less than one chicken breast. - Calories from the Colonel's sauce: 50
Reality check: This is a guess based on calorie differences between sandwiches with and without sauce from the KFC nutrition guide. KFC doesn't list the nutritional information for the sauce itself.
Grand total: 688 calories.
They would need to lose almost 100 calories through those ingredients to be able to make their claim accurate. Unfortunately we'll have to wait and see if this becomes a national product before we get any concrete nutritional information.
