Fending Off the Common Cold: Some Tips
A couple weeks ago I spent five days in Las Vegas. Before you ask, no, I'm not crazy. Yes, I had an amazing time. No, I'm not broke. Yes, I survived. Back to my story.
The weather outside was scorching and the air conditioning was arctic; the perfect breeding ground for a post-vacation cold. After having experienced it several times — not only on trips to LV — I knew exactly what was coming the week I returned home.
The sore throat started the evening of my first full day back. Slightly runny nose was about a day after that. Full on coughing took another day to make it's appearance. Four days after getting back from Las Vegas and I had a cold.
Getting over it
It's now been exactly a week since I returned from Las Vegas with no trace of the cold I just described. Here are the steps I followed to kick my cold:
- 2-3 tablets (500mg) of Vitamin C twice a day
- drank a lot of water (I got through a gallon a day)
- blew my nose frequently
- washed my hands regularly, and
- as gross as it sounds, when I coughed up phlegm I spit it out (descreetly or in private, I'm not a caveman)
This is the second or third time I've followed these steps after going on a trip and returning with a cold. Each time it's given me good results and the colds haven't lasted more than a week. Will it work for you? I don't know, but I do know there isn't any harm in trying it.
