Quite bitching and put some effort in
Alix Han, a fellow Beachbody Coach and good friend, posted this on Twitter:
don't understand why ppl bitch that 1 hr workout/day is too much. spend 24x7 feel bad abt urself or 23x7 feel great + 1x7 a power house.
This is something I had been struggling to understand as well. After a while I concluded that perhaps it was just inevitable. People have to complain about something and it might as well be something they aren't willing to change. It's a win-win for them. They can complain all they want knowing full well nothing will change and they can give the impression they're concerned about their health and wellbeing.
Now I say to them, bullshit. You can't be bothered to put in some effort. There's no magic pill or 5-minute solution to health and that's a fact you're just going to have to deal with.
Out of every person I know, there are approximately three who have legitimately busy enough schedules preventing them from being able to work out for one hour a day. The rest of you need to put up or shut up.
But I'm different
At this point you may be thinking to yourself, "But Mike, I really have a busy schedule and simply can't take an hour out of my life to exercise." I said it before and I'll repeat it here for you, bullshit.
Here are some questions for you:
- How much time to do you spend on Facebook/Twitter/[insert other internet activity here]?
- Is going to the bar for happy hour the first thing you do after work?
- How much do you spend watching TV or playing video games a day?
- Do you work from home or are you a freelancer?
- This one is geared specifically to my colleagues in the tech industry, do you go to work later than 9:30am?
I'll bet you answered "yes" or "30 minutes or more" to at least one of those questions. So let's be honest with ourselves. The next time you say you want to improve your health and I suggest a workout which will help you, your answer better be anything but "An hour is too long."
