[Link] The Real Fitness Nerd: Time Magazine's Lame Excuse Not to Exercise
I saw the cover of this issue of Time Magazine in the airport this weekend. I'm glad I didn't pick it up and read it because it would have pissed me off to no end (and ruined my flight home). The article in question is a complete crock and The Fitness Nerd breaks it down.

[Link] New ad from the New York Department of Health
The advertisement cost about $277,000 to develop over three fiscal years and will run in 1,500 subway cars for three months. It really paints a disgusting (and truthful) picture.

[Link] KFC's Double Down Sandwich
It was brought to my attention that KFC is testing a new sandwich. They claim the Double Down Sandwich — made of two fried chicken filets, two cheeses, bacon, and the Colonel's sauce — is only 590 calories. I'm not so sure about that.

[Link] Is the Pill giving geeks an unfair chance?
The pill is one of science's greatest accomplishments. At least I thought so until a girl friend offered a new perspective. Since then I've changed my opinion.

[Link] Toddler denied insurance for being too small
This is insane! United HealthCare is refusing to insure a child because she is too small. It's hard to believe the health industry in the US is so broken and, until recently, nothing is being done about it. Hearing stories like this makes me physically ill.

Another reason to stop drinking soda — especially diet soda.

[Link] The Death of Intervals
Some of this information will come as a bit of a surprise to most people. There is a lot of poor information out there regarding cardio training/activity and fat loss. You can burn fat faster and more efficiently than running around your neighbourhood park.

Diet soda makes you fat
Many people think that diet soda is something they can use to lose weight while still enjoying something they don't want to give up. When confronted about this choice most people retort, "it's not as bad as regular soda so it has to be good for me." They couldn't be more wrong.

[Link] The Benefits of Intermittent Fasting
Lately I've started hearing more and more about primal eating and Intermittent Fasting — this article focuses on the latter. While the author pokes a little fun at diets being a method to sell books I couldn't help but laugh that at the bottom of the article is an ad for a book on Intermittent Fasting. There are some interesting scientific quotes and this is certainly a topic that requires more research.

[Link] PepsiCo To Cut Sodium, Sugar, Fat In Products
It's a start at least. I'm curious to see just how these mega-corps "adjust" their recipes to make them healthier. It will also be interesting to see the public reaction to the new flavours/recipes in their popular products. Will the obese nation revolt and find other utterly unhealthy foods to replace these changed snacks?
